Before you fall in love with your dream awning design, it’s important to make sure your home is ready for installation. The way your awning is fixed to your property directly impacts its performance, safety, and longevity.

At Aura Awnings, we carry out a detailed site survey to ensure everything is suitable — but here are the key fixing considerations to be aware of before placing your order.

Wall Structure & Material

The type of wall you have will determine how your awning is fixed. Brick, block, and concrete walls are ideal for secure installation. If your wall is rendered, timber-clad, or made from another material, we may need special fixings or support plates to ensure the awning is anchored safely.

2. Height & Clearance

Your awning needs to be mounted at the right height to allow for comfortable head clearance and proper pitch for water run-off. We’ll check that there’s enough space above doors or windows for the cassette and arms to operate without obstruction.

3. Brackets & Obstructions

Gutters, downpipes, lights, or other features may require specialist brackets to position the awning correctly. These brackets are designed to bridge obstacles while still providing a strong fixing point.

4. Power Supply (for Electric Awnings)

If you’re choosing an electric awning, you’ll need an outdoor socket or fused spur in place. Aura Awnings can recommend trusted electricians to prepare this ahead of installation. Manual awnings don’t require power and can be installed anywhere suitable.

5. Load-Bearing Capacity

Awnings are engineered to withstand sun, wind, and rain — but only if securely anchored into a surface that can take the load. We’ll assess the wall strength and, if needed, suggest reinforcement solutions.

6. Space for Operation

It’s important to make sure the arms can fully extend without hitting walls, trees, or other structures. We’ll check both the open and closed positions to ensure smooth operation.

Why This Matters

A professionally installed awning isn’t just about looks — it’s about safety, performance, and long-term durability. That’s why Aura Awnings offers a comprehensive survey before manufacture, so you can order with confidence knowing your awning will fit perfectly and function flawlessly.
