A recent install on a rooftop balcony in London gave our team the chance to showcase how we really can install in any location.

Where can we fix the awning on a rooftop?

When we came to survey the property there was a number of challenges. Limited fixing points, the doors opened outwards and the access was impossible.

The customer wanted to have two awnings side by side to give the maximum flexibility. With young kids they felt it was important to be able to have some areas in shade and some in the sun. Both the awnings work from one 5 channel remote, and enable the customer to have half out half in or whatever configuration suits the family.

We fabricated special brackets to fix into the wall, and clear the roof tiles to ensure that the awning sat inline with the top of the building. This gave us enough clearance for the outward opening doors, and ensured that at the maximum projection of the awning we had suitable head height.

Getting the awning onto a balcony

Having overcome the immediate challenges of where we could fix the awning. The next issue was getting the awnings onto site.

Our team had a plan for that too, bringing our vehicle up close to the building we were able to carefully rope the awnings onto the balcony by hand. This method ensured full control of the awning, without incurring the customer unnecessary costs of a crane or heavy machinery - just old fashioned muscle and careful team work.

The final result.

The final result is two beautiful awnings installed side by side with integrated heaters. Leaving our customer over the moon with their enhanced outdoor space. These awnings are 3.3m in width and project 3m over the balcony to ensure any water runs off over the edge. We have included a wind sensor on both awnings to maintain the safety of having an awning up high where the wind might pick up.

The two heaters are programmed with the remote, so the customer can control the full system with one handheld remote.
